Things to do in Furano & Biei
This is farmland, and that is the point. The lavender at Farm Tomita peaks in the first half of July and the fields are ordinary green for most of the year, so the timing matters more here than almost anywhere else in this guide. The Blue Pond nearby is small and takes twenty minutes to see, but the colour is real and does not photograph the way it looks.

Farm Tomita
Farm Tomita is Japan's most famous lavender farm, with fields of purple lavender blooming from late June through August. The colorful flower fields with the Tokachi mountain range create an unforgettable landscape.
Blue Pond
The Blue Pond in Biei is a surreal turquoise-colored pond that appears to glow from within. The striking blue color is caused by colloidal aluminum hydroxide in the water, and the scene changes beautifully with each season.
