Things to do in Kanagawa (Yokohama, Kamakura, Hakone)
Kanagawa is where Tokyo goes on its days off. Kamakura and Enoshima are a single train line from the city and give you temples, a beach and — on a clear winter day — Mt. Fuji across the water. Hakone is further and deserves an overnight: the standard loop by cable car, boat and mountain railway is touristy and genuinely worth doing.

Great Buddha of Kamakura
The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a 13.35-meter bronze statue of Amitabha Buddha cast in 1252. Unusually, the statue sits in the open air — the hall that once surrounded it was washed away by a tsunami in the 15th century.
Enoshima Island
Enoshima is a small island famous for its shrine, sea caves, and stunning ocean views of Mt. Fuji on clear days. The island is also a great spot for fresh shirasu (whitebait) dishes.
Yokohama Chinatown
Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in Japan, with over 600 restaurants and shops in a lively neighborhood. The ornate gates, red lanterns, and irresistible aromas from dim sum make it a must-visit food destination.
Hakone
Hakone is a scenic mountain resort town famous for its views of Mt. Fuji, hot spring ryokan, and open-air museums. The volcanic landscape around Owakudani features active sulfur vents and famous black eggs cooked in the hot springs.
